Our favourite social enterprises for your business to support

There’s no two ways about it – with some jobs and workplaces, it’s harder to get meaning and purpose from them as others. However, supporting businesses who do good work to help the community and those in need is a great way to get those warm fuzzy feelings and feel more connected to a purpose.

So, if you’re looking for a social enterprise to support, we’ve put together a list of our favourites for your business (or you!) to spend its dollars at – you get something you need and help positively impact others at the same time – win-win!

Who Gives A Crap

One of the best known social enterprises on this list, Who Gives A Crap sells toilet paper and 50% of their profits goes towards ensuring that people have access to clean water and a working toilet, which is amazing. Their toilet paper is also recycled and comes wrapped in paper (none of that nasty plastic), plus they also sell tissues, paper towels and cleaning cloths to both individuals and businesses. Go on, be kind to your bum.

The Beautiful Bunch

Sadly, these florists with a heart of gold are only based in Melbourne, but boy they do good work. They offer training and employment to women from refugee backgrounds who experience challenges finding employment in Melbourne. So when you buy a bouquet of flowers from them for your team member’s birthday or to celebrate a promotion, it’ll be put together by the participants in their training program.

Mettle

Need to send a gift? Mettle have gift boxes full of goodies for women, men and even babies. That’s awesome, but what makes them a social enterprise? They employ women who have experienced homelessness due to domestic and family violence. Domestic and family violence can mean that it’s difficult and dangerous for women to try to find safe employment and establish financial independence, so Mettle gives women stable income, nurturing training, study scholarships, childcare and crisis funds.

ZeroCo

If helping to untrash the planet sounds good to you, then you’ve got to support ZeroCo. They remove rubbish from the ocean and turn that rubbish into a plastic bottle for your cleaning supplies. Fill up your bottles with cleaning products that come in a reusable pouch (also made of recycled plastic) and send the pouch back to ZeroCo and purchase a new one whenever you need it! They’ve also got a leaderboard for the businesses that are embracing ZeroCo’s products, so if you’re the competitive type, get your team on it!
